 Sainsbury's Bag Packing
« Result #1 on May 10, 2008, 4:42pm »

Many thanks to the 29 lads from 5 different age groups who helped out with bag packing today at Sainsbury's Frenchgate Centre store.

In total during the four hours we were there, we raised £266 for club funds.

This is our lowest total for bag packing, but it was still a great effort from the lads as Sainsbury's only opened between 3 & 5 tills during all the time we were there, instead of the ten which they normally have.

Thanks again go to:-

 Training Update (5 May 2008)
« Result #7 on May 5, 2008, 10:45pm »

The next midweek training session will be held on Thursday 8 May 2008 at Cantley Park 6.00pm - 7.00pm.

There will be no Saturday training this week since the introductory session for next years under 7's group is taking place at the Lower Hallcross at this time and the club would like all available coaches to help out. The time I think is 10.00am - 11.00am.

 Wheatley Warriors v Bessacarr A/B - Result
« Result #8 on May 5, 2008, 10:38pm »

Bessacarr took a large squad to play a friendly 11 a side against Wheatley Warriors on the town fields on Sunday 4 May 2008.

The match was played in 3 x 20 minute 'halves'

The Bessacarr squad comprised: Greg, Harry Weedall, James, Asa, Daniel Summerfield, Jordan, Mark, Nathan Fox, Steven, Ben, Liam, Joe, Andrew, Luke, Nathan White, Harry Phillips, Lewis, Jack Thompson and Jack Wake.

The first half proved pretty even with Wheatley taking the honours care of a super lob over Greg in goal and some very effective defending at the other end - one player in particular catching the eye - no one seemed able to get past him.

In the second half the Bessacarr back line fielded a distinct lack of pace allowing Wheatley several opportunities to score - which they did on two occasions - despite the best endeavours of Ben in goal. Wheatley got a third very dodgy goal that proved to be well off side - the linesman flagging but the ref missing it - the only blot on an otherwise highly competent performance by the man in the middle. Bessacarr I think struck the cross bar in the second half - Joe the unlucky player not to score.

Bessacarr generally dominated the third half but were unable to put the ball in the back of the net - succumbing to a late Wheatley strike (another lob - over Liam this time) at a time when Anthony was making substitutions to the defensive line.

A few players catching the eye today - Asa in defence barely let anything get past him. New boy Jack Wake played well in midfield with Lewis putting in another good shift on the wing. Greg, Ben and Liam all did well in goal.

 Club Awards
« Result #9 on May 2, 2008, 4:45pm »

At last night's Junior League Presentation Evening, the club presented trophies to two people who have contributed an awful lot over the years to Bessacarr FC.

Paul Russell: In recognition of the years spent putting the club back on the map and improving footballing standards for all.

Phil Talbot: In recognition of the years spent bringing football to many and keeping our finances in order.

The good news is that neither of them are leaving the club and will be active committee members next season.
