Bessacarr FC 4 Bentley Pumas 0
Premier league champions Bessacarr FC completed the cup and league double when they beat Bentley Pumas in the Under 16 cup final on a bitterly cold and windy Wednesday evening at Harworth Colliery.
Bentley won the toss and chose to play with the wind at their backs in the first half but it was Bessacarr who started the stronger and dominated the first 20 minutes and Tom Arnold hit the post following a good run,Bessacarr's first goal came from Ryan Wattam who curved a superb 30 yard shot into the top left corner of the Bentley net following a corner.
That goal seemed to galvanise Bentley who were unlucky not to equalise when some good passing cut through the Bessacarr defence and James Conway (Bollie)shot was brilliantly saved by Thomas Richardson in the Bessacarr goal. An injury to Mitchell Lashmar meant that Bentley had to reshuffle their defence but the score remained 1-0 at the end of the first half.
Within two minutes of the restart,Bessacarr went 2-0 ahead when Daniel Chapman headed in from a corner. Bentley tried hard to get back into the game quickly with Joel Mortlock causing problems on the left wing and Josh Rowley hitting the post. Bessacarr defended well with Scott Looker outstanding throughout the match and gradually they opened up the Bentley defence and although James Chambers twice cleared off the line, the third goal for Bessacarr came when the hard working Tom Oades slotted in after another scramble in the Bentley goalmouth.
Bentley threw caution to the wind and with their defenders pushing forward, the Bessacarr substitute Lucasz Sadlowski was able to draw the Bentley keeper and put the ball under his dive in the last few minutes. The 4-0 scoreline flattered Bessacarr whose midfield trio Niall Doyle, James Stuart and Ryan Wattam all played well. Bentley were unlucky not to get on the scoresheet and their defenders Steven Garner and Adam O'Shea were outstanding and midfielder Craig Aspinall worked hard all evening.
